UK Power Networks
UK Power Networks own and maintain electricity cables and lines across London, the South East and East of England. The Business Finance Partnering team, based in Crawley, Sussex, chose to support Neuroblastoma UK after their colleague sadly lost her daughter to the disease in 2019.
About the partnership:
The team have held a number of fundraising activities in and around their offices since their colleague's little girl passed away. During the last World Cup they held a score predictor. They've also held bake sales and Christmas fundraisers, and more recently the team walked the equivalent of a marathon raising more than £1000 for the charity, plus matched funding from UK Power Networks.
Clair Cliff, Finance Manager, said, "After a colleague of ours lost her daughter to neuroblastoma in August 2019 we knew we just had to do something to help raise money and awareness of this childhood cancer. Before that time, we thought childhood cancers were so rare we were never likely to hear or know anyone who would go through it. We’d never heard of neuroblastoma and certainly wouldn’t know what signs to look out for in our children. Some symptoms can be so ‘normal’ and easily missed but catching cancer early in children is just as important as catching it early in adults. It can save a life. So our mission has been to spread awareness and raise money. We want to help fund the amazing work that Neuroblastoma UK does to understand this cancer and how we can, hopefully one day, cure all children and hopefully make treatments so much kinder for the children that have to endure them".
