Neuroblastoma UK to benefit from Citywire Charity Virtual 10k Run
We are delighted to have been chosen by Citywire, a global financial publishing, data and events business, to benefit from their annual Charity Run later this month.
A virtual challenge
Their annual Charity Run will now be a virtual event, to be held on 28 May, after original plans for a 5k and 10k run in London’s Regent’s Park had to be scrapped following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Around 200 staff and members of the investment management industry are expected to take part. They will complete their run under the social distancing rules, using Strava, a tracking app, to log their activity.
Companies across the investment and asset management industry will make a donation in return for their colleagues to take part in the run, either on an individual or group basis, while maintaining social distancing.
The event will raise valuable funds for both Neuroblastoma UK and St Francis Hospice, which will each receive 50% of the total donations made to Citywire.
Running in memory of a colleague’s brother
Neuroblastoma UK were chosen by Citywire's charity committee following their colleague’s fundraising story.
Eleanor Mahmoud, Deputy Head of UK Audience Development at Citywire, sadly lost her brother Neil to neuroblastoma, a year before she was born. Neil passed away when he was just 14 years old and would have been 45 years old this year.
Eleanor decided to take on the London Marathon in her brother's memory and is aiming to raise £2,000. While the Marathon has now been postponed until October, you can support Eleanor’s efforts on her JustGiving fundraising page.
Raising money. Funding research
Last year, the annual Citywire charity 10k run raised more than £20,000 and they hope to beat that this year as they go virtual.
However much they raise, half the money will be donated to Neuroblastoma UK. This money will help us to fund vital research to develop new, effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma.
We are so grateful to Eleanor and her colleagues at Citywire for supporting our work.
