Thank you for your support

A child's drawing of snowmen, reindeer and Christmas trees

Drawn by five year old James, brother to Beth

We've been fighting childhood cancer for nearly 40 years and, thanks to you, we've been able to continue our vital work during another difficult year.

And what a year it’s been.

We’re ending the year on a high with two new grants awarded for vital research into neuroblastoma.

And in September, the SIOPEN High-Risk Neuroblastoma 2 trial was officially opened

Quite simply, this research would not have been possible without your kind donations and support.

Here are just some of the amazing things you did for us in 2021!

  • You stayed at home for our virtual Big Pub Quiz with our Patron Alan Carr, raising over £2,000.

  • We were so excited for big sporting events like the London Marathon, London Landmarks Half Marathon and the Brighton Marathon to finally happen after such a long break. Our amazing team of runners raised over £20,000 in the London Marathon alone!

  • You grabbed your trainers and took part in our spring and Christmas virtual challenges up and down the country raising over £4,000 - look out for the Santas taking part in our Sleigh to 5k this Christmas!

  • We had some amazing walkers too including little Ruairi who at just three years old, climbed Scafell Pike in memory of his best friend. He’s now getting ready to climb Mount Snowdon next year! Daniel raised over £3,000 by completing the Hadrian’s Wall Walk, in memory of Amelia.

  • You took on some personal challenges. You joined our first Facebook challenge in June, completing a combined 11.5million steps raising over £6,000. And superstar Richard did 10,000 push ups, ran 100 miles and then did 4 half marathons for his niece Apple! Phew!

  • The little things really do add up. 120,000 raffle tickets were sold for £2.50 each, to win a South Lakes house. We received a huge donation of £50,000 as part of this brilliant initiative, thanks to Sam and Steve and their wonderful daughter Oonagh.

  • Companies big and small have supported us too, including South of The River with their amazing Warrior bracelets, BT (also inspired by Apple) and our corporate partners Melody Care, UK Power Networks, Triple FFF Brewery and Obrizum Media.

But it’s not just donations that make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who signed the Parliamentary Petition calling on Government to invest in the NHS cancer workforce, wore a gold ribbon, became a Volunteer Charity Ambassador or shared our social media posts to help raise awareness of this little known childhood cancer.

And of course, our wonderful Patrons Alan Carr and Scott Mills have helped us reach huge audiences this year, thank you.

Thank you to the families

Finally, our sincere thanks go to all the families who have inspired and supported our work this year.

We'd especially like to thank the Chesterton family who shared their story to support our Christmas appeal. Five year old James lost his big sister Beth on Christmas Eve in 2019 and he drew this amazing festive scene for us.  We remember all those who we’ve lost this year and our hearts and thoughts are with everyone who finds Christmas a sad and difficult time.

Hope for the future

Your donations, time and support bring real hope to families affected by neuroblastoma. And as we mark our 40th year in 2022, we’d love you to join us and help us achieve even more.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

From all of us at Neuroblastoma UK
